How To Prepare For Your Photo Session

How to Prepare for Your Photo Session

When it comes time for your session, focus on relaxing and having fun. My sessions are very organized and efficient. I take  LOTS of pictures, but move pretty quickly through each pose to keep everyone’s attention. The session will include posed, must-have shots, and candid playful photos! If you have any special picture requests, please let me know before or during your session.

WHAT TO WEAR:

Wear something that fits your personality. Be aware of your body and any insecurities. Layer and accessorize. Use more than one tone, Start with a foundation color. Avoid distracting clothing and logos. Add accent colors. texture and pattern. Dress for the weather. If it’s snowing outside maybe you should skip the dress and go for that cozy sweater. Being comfortable is most important!

HOW TO PREPARE:

1. Make sure outfits are clean, ironed, and ready the day before.

2. Make sure everyone is well fed and rested the day of. Full tummies and well rested brains means happier humans and better photos.

3. Plan on arriving 10 minutes early to your session. We’ll start right on time to make sure we have plenty of time to capture all the must-have shots. But by planning to arrive early, this can help factor in unexpected events like heavy traffic or needing to spruce up after the drive.

4. Don’t just focus on the final product; enjoy the experience.  Photo sessions can be stressful, especially for mom, but instead of worrying over if the photos will be perfect, embrace that life ISN’T perfect. Have fun. Enjoy the candid moments!  Great photos are reflective of your life exactly at the time they’re taken.  If your children won’t stop running around, or the baby is fussing, – it’s totally okay. Messy and chaos is beautiful. Your life is beautiful!  This is a time to enjoy how unpredictable, fun, and wonderful life can be.

FOR KIDS:

1. Talk to your children before your session and get them excited about pictures. Let them know your expectations of their behavior, but more importantly talk it up to make it sound like a fun and special event – because it is!

2. Have snacks or treats on hand during the session. Bribery is definitely okay when it comes to photo sessions! Planning a special outing after the shoot can be a great incentive for good behavior.

3. Bring your child’s favorite toys or other props if they need special help staying focused.

I hope this guide helped simply how to prepare for your photo session. If you need any help or advice, please reach out and I am happy to help!
